# About Can You Use AI

Can You Use AI answers one kind of question: "can I use AI to …?" Write a cover letter, do my taxes, make a logo, is it illegal to use AI art. People ask these all the time, and the answers are scattered across legislation, regulator guidance and platform rules. We pull them together in one place, for free.

## Who runs it

The site is run by Adapt Progress Evolve Limited, a UK software studio (company number 10047328, VAT GB362654684). It's written by [Jack Stovell](https://i.hilyt.it/jack).

We also make products of our own, and sometimes one turns up in a panel labelled "Our tool for this" or "From the same studio". Those panels always say the product is ours. A product only appears where it fits the question, and a verdict never depends on it.

## How verdicts are decided

Every question page opens with a verdict, then "How to do it well", then "Rules and risks". Every source is linked at the bottom. The verdict comes from two things: the rules that apply (laws, regulators' guidance, platform and institution policies) and what current AI tools can actually do. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed.

There are four verdicts:

- **Yes:** you can, and nothing special applies beyond normal care.
- **Yes, with care:** you can, but there's a rule, a disclosure duty or a real risk to handle.
- **It depends:** the answer turns on your situation, such as your employer, your course or the platform. The page says what it turns on.
- **No:** it isn't allowed, or AI can't do it reliably enough to depend on.

## Sources

We prefer primary ones: legislation, regulators, official guidance, and published platform and institution policies. If a claim has no source, we don't publish it. That's the whole rule, and it keeps us honest.

## Not legal, financial or medical advice

This is general information for UK readers. It isn't legal, financial or medical advice, and rules change. For a decision that matters, check the source yourself and ask a qualified professional.
